Over the years Fairham Brook has been transformed into a straight ditch draining agricultural land. At one section an old metal weir, built under a railway bridge had become a barrier to breeding fish reaching the upper stretches of the Trent tributary. EMEC Land Management brought in 17tons of Yorkshire stone and installed this under the bridge. Stones of various shapes and sizes were used to create pools slowing the fall of water and raising the level of the water enough for the old weir to no longer be an obstacle for fish.
